This series questions the reflections the body provokes, particularly in its nudity. In a society where the body is almost systematically bound to notions of desire and sensuality, and where nudity is overwhelmingly equated with sexuality, Jonathan Couvent takes the opposite stance and shows it as it is. Far from the retouched images that flood our screens and magazine pages, his photographs reveal the natural body as it is: a physical envelope, not what it might evoke. Dance makes it possible to capture precisely this aspect of the body, as a "machine" for creating movement, expression, emotion.
